Matt is the owner and leader of Aspen Builders. Matt was born and raised in Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State Technical College where he earned his building/construction degree, specializing in custom interior trim and cabinetry. After working in Oklahoma, Matt and his family moved to eastern Virginia where he established a premiere remodeling and custom woodworking business. After living in the Beltway area and building his restoration business, Matt and his family relocated to the Hendersonville area for the same reasons many of his clients flock to Western North Carolina: love of the mountains, pleasant weather, lack of urban congestion, and a family-focused, friendly environment. Matt’s love of the area is evident in every Aspen Builders’ project, from site placement to the use of natural stone and wood. Each home built by Aspen is custom designed to fit the mountain setting of the region.

Joe Konsler, Project Manager
Joe was born and raised in Hendersonville, North Carolina and studied sculpture at UNC Greensborough. His background in sculpture and passion for hand-crafting bridged his transition to the construction industry 16 years ago. He was working as a trim carpenter when he crossed paths with Matt, collaborating on several projects. They quickly developed an excellent working relationship to form a successful business team. Joe is an artist, but he is also a problem solver and a people person. One of the most rewarding aspects of his career is working closely with talented and reliable subcontractors to meet challenges head-on. Joe’s mission is to turn the client’s expectations into reality through understanding and communication. “Handing over the keys to the homeowners, knowing they will enjoy their home for many years to come, is the most gratifying experience”.
Emily Spreng, Project Coordinator / Designer
Emily is Project Coordinator and Designer at Aspen Builders. Emily graduated from Purdue University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. Emily studied abroad in Paris, where she gained a passion for historic buildings that spurred her decision to continue her university studies with a focus in architecture preservation. She went on to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning a master’s degree in historic preservation with a concentration on adaptive reuse and restoration. During graduate school, Emily worked as a designer at Gail Prauss Interior Design. She was introduced to the construction industry through an internship at Berglund Construction. Emily’s relationship with Aspen Builders began in 2010, when she collaborated with Matt Holloway on the design and construction of her parents’ new home in Flat Rock. She relocated from Chicago to Western North Carolina in August 2013 to begin full-time work at Aspen Builders.
